Karyn Shapira

Karyn Shapira is a distinguished partner at Evangelista, Barristers & Solicitors, joining the firm in 2006. Prior to her tenure at Evangelista, Karyn practiced at a large Toronto-based law firm, where she honed her skills and developed a strong foundation in civil litigation. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 and has since established herself as a formidable presence in the legal community.

Karyn’s practice is dedicated to civil litigation, with a focus on commercial litigation, insurance litigation, and personal injury litigation. She has advised a diverse range of clients on various commercial and insurance issues, showcasing her extensive expertise in municipal claims, environmental claims, motor vehicle accident claims, occupiers’ liability actions, products liability, life insurance, and other disability-related insurance matters. Karyn has successfully appeared before all levels of the Ontario Court, the Federal Court, and numerous tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal.

Karyn is an active member of the Advocates’ Society and the Ontario Bar Association. Her commitment to the legal profession extends beyond her practice by dedicating the time to providing continuing education to her peers. She has shared her advocacy expertise at conferences organized by the Ontario Bar Association and has conducted civil procedure tutorials and advocacy demonstrations for first-year law students at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Karyn graduated from the University of Victoria Law School in 2001. Before law school, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and environmental science from Trent University in 1998. Her exceptional academic achievements laid a solid foundation for her outstanding legal career.

Karyn’s excellent oral and written advocacy skills have made her an essential asset in complex litigation cases, earning her a reputation as a formidable opponent in the courtroom. Her ability to navigate intricate legal issues and provide clear, strategic advice has been instrumental in achieving favourable outcomes for her clients.

Outside the office, Karyn values spending quality time with her husband and three children. She enjoys reading and playing tennis, activities that provide a balanced complement to her demanding legal career.
