Benjamin Hantsis

Benjamin is a driven advocate with a strong foundation in both Canadian and U.S. law. His practice includes commercial litigation, specialty risk, coverage, and subrogated claims. He has appeared in matters before various courts and tribunals.

Before joining Evangelista Barristers & Solicitors as an associate, Benjamin began at a defence litigation firm in downtown Toronto. He completed his Canadian J.D. from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and his United States J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Benjamin graduated with multiple recognitions, including two Presidential Awards, Dean’s list, the Irving I. Palman scholarships, and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award.

He served as an Advanced Student Attorney and Supervisor in the International Intellectual Property Law Patent Clinic in Detroit, an Editor for the Windsor Law Review, Treasurer and VP of Operations for the Jewish Students Association, and is the Founder of the Windsor Law Tennis Club. Benjamin participated in various moot competitions and was the Teaching Assistant for both Torts and Transactional Drafting.

In addition to his legal experience, Benjamin has a background in research, having worked as a research assistant at the Minerva Center for Human Rights with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Law and a directed reading at York University. He received Sessional Academic Achievement List awards for outstanding academic achievement and received a full ride scholarship to study innovation and the start-up model at the Rothberg International School in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Benjamin contributes to his legal community and community at large, volunteering as a moot judge / coach and holding an executive position with the Lloyd Dean Moot. He

volunteered for a non-profit organization for over three years, where he helped develop fire departments in underdeveloped countries.

Benjamin is an active member of The Advocates’ Society and the Toronto Lawyers Association. He is fluent in Hebrew.
